The position is in Sandvik’s Turku site which is the main product development and manufacturing center for our Load and Haul equipment. Partial remote work is possible in the role, however occasional travel and presence is required in our division headquarters in Turku.

Your primary areas of responsibility
As an Application Engineer in the Electric Powertrain Technology team, you work with the electric powertrain technology development. You create engineering-level specifications for electric powertrain control systems, select the suitable components and analyze the system behavior from the measured data. You are motivated to learn how the dump trucks and loaders operate in detail and in a larger high-level scope. Our machines work in underground mines in harsh environment, so the reliability, safety and serviceability must be in high level in all possible cases.

Your work includes the following

• Power electronics component dimensioning and selection for electric powertrain
• Define, develop, and validate control algorithms for electric powertrain.
• Use MathWorks MATLAB to create simulation models of electric powertrain system and/or components.
• Analyze measurement data from tests and from field and use it to develop electric powertrain.
• Create the engineering-level functional specifications for battery (hybrid) electric vehicles powertrains.
• Developing the interfaces for systems modules and components.
• Providing hands-on support for the prototype development and testing.
• Participating in the implementation of the features in the production.
• Continuously interacting with SW and Test Engineers. Supporting and sharing expertise with other internal stakeholders.
• Follow new technology around electric powertrain.

Your background and what we find important

• A suitable degree in engineering, M.Sc. in Power Electronics preferred.
• Knowledge of full electric or hybrid machine, electric driveline with embedded control systems, or inverter/motor controls are seen as a benefit.
• It would be an advantage if you have knowledge of mobile hydraulics and/or model-based design and MATLAB/Simulink.
• Fluent in English and Finnish seen as an asset.
• Proactive, systematic work approach.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work well in a multicultural stakeholder environment.
• Comfortable meeting challenging targets driven by project deadlines.
• Willingness to travel for projects, including visits to underground mines.
