The Role Bottomline is looking for an Application Operations Engineer to grow with us in a Hybrid work environment out of our Geneva, Switzerland office! The GT Service Bureau is responsible for the day-to-day running of a suite of GT message processing platforms that are business critical to our customers and pivotal to our growth. The team’s core responsibilities include responding to operational issues, capacity management, and implementing automation and monitoring across the complex technology estate. This team draws on a wide range of technical skills required to operate critical messages and payments platforms including an expert knowledge of SWIFT and the GT Suite of applications, knowledge, and technical capabilities to operate Unix and SQL environments. The ideal candidate will have real world experience working in a global operation, be fanatical about service availability, customer orientation excellence and repeatable process and automation, and understand the challenging choices needed to create scale, resilience, security, and availability. Further, this role requires a business-savvy individual who can manage complex situations with stakeholders and clients. This person must be able to work hybrid with certain days in our Geneva office! How you’ll contribute: As a Service Bureau Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring that the availability and performance of our business-critical GT Bureau environments, meet our customer SLAs. This will be achieved through the standardization and maturation of the monitoring and alerting capabilities across the GT platforms, ensuring that as our GT footprint grows, service availability, performance and error handling are considered throughout the payment lifecycle. In collaboration with team members, you will be expected to deliver technical, process and automation improvements in line with the vision set out above. Key responsibilities include: Alerting: Scope, configure and regularly review alerting to ensure rapid notification and resolution of production incidents. Develop runbooks that correlate with the alerting configured, so that when alerts happen there is a clearly defined set of steps for remediation. Platform Availability Monitor the GT platforms to identify any environmental or customer issues. Escalate issues identified to Problem Management and root cause analysis or to the requisite product and development teams for analysis and bug fixing. Report on the availability of the Bureau Incident Management: Participate in service restoration during incidents. Create, validate, and update service recovery. Collaborate with application experts to deliver processes that facilitate “one-click” service recovery capabilities. Take part in incident reporting creation and distribution. Be involved in incident avoidance action plan. Always Available Platform Participate in the out of hours “on call” rotation to ensure industry-leading incident response is in place for any production issues that may arise. What will make you successful: English fluent Soft skills and communication Formal training in Computer Science or IT Knowledge of SWIFT – preferred Person must have a technical background - banking/operations preferred. Server administration experience on Linux environments Experience working with SQL and SQL Server Automating tasks using Linux and Python scripts or automation tools (Jenkins, pipelines, Git / GitLab SCM, Ansible, puppet, terraform) A strong desire to work in a critical technical environment.
