JOB SUMMARY

The Application Support Student Worker will help manage support requests for portfolio, program, and project management software. This role provides hands-on experience in IT support, software applications, and project management. We are looking for a detail-oriented student with strong communication skills and a willingness to learn.
This position requires an employee to be onsite at 600 N. Robert St. Saint Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Telework for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis. Employees will be required to meet current telework eligibility requirements.

Student Worker Eligibility - To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker Paraprofessional Senior you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate educational program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be “off” for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit-granting institution you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college program as a junior, senior, or graduate student.
  • Academic programs can include Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Business Analytics, Data Science, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.

Experience must include:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Technical aptitude demonstrated through course work, academic projects, or work experience involving software application or troubleshooting.
  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with database design or data management methods.
  • Familiarity with Python and PowerApps.
  • Awareness of Agile or Project Management framework.
  • Experience or course work with scripting for automation and data tasks.
  • Experience or course work in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  • Experience or course work in Power BI or other data visualization tools.
