The Opportunity This role is a key part of helping individuals and families access safe, affordable housing in Missoula. As a Rental Application Technician, you will be the first point of contact for many applicants—guiding them through the application process with professionalism, accuracy, and respect. You’ll work closely with multiple departments and programs to ensure that applicants are screened fairly and consistently in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and committed to equitable housing access. What You’ll Do * Application Processing & Screening * Conduct application intake appointments with rental applicants * Verify household income, assets, and eligibility documentation * Run criminal and credit background checks * Make screening determinations in compliance with applicable program guidelines * Customer Service & Communication * Serve as a public-facing contact for vacancy inquiries and general housing questions * Communicate clearly with applicants regarding requirements, documentation, and next steps * Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism * Program Coordination & Compliance * Coordinate with the voucher department to assist in screening project-based program applicants * Ensure compliance with Fair Housing laws and program regulations at all times * Stay current on changes to federal, state, and local screening procedures * Marketing & Administrative Support * Update weekly online vacancy listings and ensure accuracy * Maintain organized and complete applicant files * Perform additional administrative and program support tasks as assigned What You’ll Bring Certifications (or willingness to earn within 6 months) * LIHTC Certification * Montana Fair Housing Training Knowledge & Skills * Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment * High level of attention to detail and accuracy in documentation * Ability to manage confidential information responsibly * Strong interpersonal and customer service skills * Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations * Proficiency in standard office software and systems Why Join Us? * Play a direct role in helping individuals secure housing * Work in a mission-driven, collaborative environment * Gain valuable experience in affordable housing programs and compliance * Opportunities for professional growth and certification support Benefits  Salary: $22-26/hr * The listed salary range reflects a starting point for this position.
