The Discovery team assists customers in their fashion discovery journey and helps them find what they are looking for. We are developing the next generation of our discovery systems, utilizing state-of-the-art natural language processing (NLP) and/or information retrieval (IR) methods, particularly transformer-based deep neural networks and large language models (LLMs).
As an Applied Science Manager, you will lead a team of exceptional scientists and engineers that develop algorithms and engineer cutting-edge machine learning and deep learning products that enhance the experience of over 51 million customers. You will be responsible for ensuring successful design, development, testing, experimentation, and the operations of algorithms, datasets, and systems your team owns, delivering department-wide and cross-department projects in collaboration with several teams. You will work with other science and engineering leaders, product managers and other stakeholders to make sure that we are investing in the right opportunities. You are a strong people leader who will effectively coach a cross functional applied science science team and will help to develop, coach and grow our talented group of scientists.

Responsibilities:

  • Bring in your strong scientific and leading experience in managing teams to researching, deploying and architecting machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) based solutions in areas such as ranking and recommendations to help our millions of customers in their inspiration journey.
  • Manage a healthy, high performing delivery team of scientists, providing direction and context on topics such as customer impact and business requirements, and overseeing all aspects of the delivery lifecycle: design, experimentation, implementation, and testing. Coach the team to formulate long term research plans that create customer impact in challenging fashion problems, such as outfit generation, with state-of-the-art solutions.
  • Empower the team to stay up-to-date with the latest research and how to apply it into our area. Contribute to our scientific efforts with rigorous peer reviews and through publications in international conferences.
  • Scale up, manage and mentor other junior and senior scientists, reviewing and guiding their work and provide them with constructive and actionable feedback. Help us through hiring to keep on bringing talented scientists to the team.
  • Work closely with other applied science leaders, product managers and other business stakeholders to bring our state-of-the-art solutions to the customers and to discover and identify new opportunities.
