We’re hiring a full-time Apprentice Butcher to join the team at our wonderful Longford store!
The apprenticeship is an opportunity for an aspiring butcher to begin their career in retail butchery. You’ll be part of a team of butchers and other team members, preparing meat and serving customers.

You’ll need a positive attitude, good communication skills, the dedication and willingness to learn. You must be prepared to work with and around meat in a food and retail environment.

• A friendly attitude and good communication skills to provide the attentive customer service Hill Street is known for.
• A love of working with food and people (both colleagues and customers)
• Energy, initiative and willingness to take direction.
• The ability to follow company procedures and regulations, particularly regarding food handling and workplace health and safety.
• Ongoing daytime availability on at least 3-4 days per week and every second weekend. Your standard roster will be agreed based on your availability and our operational requirements, with flexibility to suit your needs.

• The desire and eligibility to undertake the Retail Butcher qualification through TasTafe.Physical fitness for lifting and standing.

  Pay rates are set by the General Retail Industry Award. The 2024-25 base hourly pay rates for level 1 adults are:

Full time & part time

• Weekdays $25.65
• Saturday $32.06
• Sunday $38.48

Casual

• Weekdays $32.06
• Saturday $38.48

• Sunday $44.89

• Additional penalty rates apply to public holidays and some overtime and early morning shifts. Please view the full Award for all applicable rates and allowances.
