SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Good standard of secondary education with GCSE grades 4 and above
  • Full driving licence required or learning to drive
  • Must be able to work on your own and as part of a team
  • Must be willing to work toward a structured training program
  • Willingness to travel and/or lodge away from home. Toward the end of the program Apprentices will be required to lodge away, as this may be a requirement once qualified
  • Willingness to work overtime and work weekends. This can sometimes be a requirement of qualified engineers dependant on the location of some jobs
  • The individual should be self-motivated and take responsibility for their own development
Responsibilities

THE ROLE

  • To work toward a structured training and development program to become a fully qualified Mechanical or Electrical Service Engineer.
  • To achieve NVQ Level 3 and BTEC Level 3 in Electrical Engineering, attendance at the AMRC Training Centre is required. This will involve residing in Sheffield for the first six months of the course, with accommodation provided.
  • Following achievement of the above, Apprentices will complete a 10 day City & Guilds Electrical Maintenance course and a 3 day 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations course
  • In your final year you will complete a LEEA Foundation course and a LEEA Advanced Diploma
  • After successfully completing your apprenticeship programme you will be invited to attend to apply for the position of Service Engineer, this includes a series of tests and assessments, a formal interview and a review of your four years on the programme

DUTIES OF THE ROLE

  • Refurbishment/ Modernisation of Cranes, Hoists and Lifting Equipment.
  • Crane and Gantry installation, inspection, testing and commissioning.
  • Jib Crane installation, inspection, testing and commissioning.
  • To carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and identify potential mechanical and electrical problems with our reporting system.
  • To carry out service follow-up (SFU) and/or project modernisation work related to crane conversion or refurbishment.
  • To attend emergency breakdowns, identify faults and carry out effective repairs. These will generally be electrical problems, possibly PLC related.
  • To document all site visits using our cutting-edge reporting technology.
