Option Excavating Inc. is an Alberta-owned full-service underground infrastructure installation company. We specialize in installing water, sanitary sewers, storm sewer main lines, and services. We serve the municipal public works, petroleum, commercial and residential sectors, and the gas and commercial industries. We also excavate, grade, and haul for various projects throughout Alberta.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for a motivated 2nd Year Apprentice Field Mechanic to join our Alberta-based team. The successful candidate will assist in the maintenance, repair, and inspection of heavy equipment and trucks in field environments.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered 2nd Year Apprentice
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence (Class 1 or 3 with air brakes considered an asset).
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals and diagrams.
  • Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills; eager to learn advanced techniques.
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions and remote sites across Alberta.

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Field-based work; travel to various Alberta job sites required.
  • Flexible to work overtime, weekends, and on-call as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative maintenance and assist with repairs on heavy equipment (excavators, loaders, skid steers, graders, trucks).
  • Respond to field service calls and support troubleshooting efforts.
  • Assist senior mechanics with diagnostics and component replacement.
  • Complete maintenance logs and equipment service reports accurately.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance
  • Follow lock-out/tag-out procedures and all site-specific safety rules.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized service truck and work area.
