An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Customer Service Apprentice to join the Customer and Business Support team. This is a great chance to gain the Business Administrator Advanced Apprenticeship whilst working for the CABS team.

As part of this role, you can expect to undertake the following tasks:

  • Data inputting
  • Scanning
  • Updating of systems
  • Email inbox monitoring
  • Using the council finance systems
  • Dealing with telephone enquiries

The Customer and Business Support Service at Medway Council is looking for an apprentice in Customer Service. We are offering this opportunity to the right candidate who must be willing and prepared to work hard, with a good standard of education (GCSE in English and mathematics)
We require someone with an excellent work ethic and good timekeeping who is committed to learning through study and practical work.
This post is an excellent opportunity to gain a wealth of knowledge and experience and training in the world of customer service and within the council, with support from managers and colleagues service to go on to complete the programme. You will have the opportunity to talk to customers over the phone about a variety of issues they contact us about, this could include waste, social care, libraries, leisure as examples. Full training will be provided to help give you confidence and skills and make sure you are equipped to do this.
There will be a requirement to commit to study as part of the apprenticeship programme and to undertake an NVQ portfolio of work. Attendance at College for some study sessions is required, whilst the majority of time will be spent in the office. Deadlines for completion of work will be given by the College and time in the office will be provided to undertake this work. Advice and support will be available.
At the end of the apprenticeship our aim is for all apprentices to feel confident and equipped to apply for permanent jobs with the experience and qualifications they will have gained. The successful candidate will form part of an apprenticeship group for the service and maybe asked to work from different locations or teams.
All apprentices will be a part of the council’s apprenticeship academy and will have the opportunity to take part in development opportunities as part of this.
As a Customer and Business Support Service we have an excellent track record of our apprentices having successfully gained permanent employment either with the council (through a competitive interview process) or in other public services, however this cannot be guaranteed.
Ideally you will have good communication and interpersonal skills, combined with competent IT skills, accurate data entry along with a good attention to detail. However we are happy to support you to reach those goals if you are highly motivated and have the desire to learn and succeed.
