Position Title: Apprentice Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Department: Medical – Clinical Education
Supervisor: Apprentice Supervisor
Supervisory Responsibilities: None

SUMMARY:

The Apprentice Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will start in the role of Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). A clearly defined progressive course of education and learning will move the apprentice into the role of LPN during the apprenticeship. The Certified Medical Assistant (MA) performs routine administrative and clinical tasks to assist in the delivering primary health care to Alluvion Health patients. The Medical Assistant performs clinical support staff procedures along with providing preventive health care education to patients of Alluvion Health, including working with patients of all socioeconomic backgrounds in an effective, culturally, and linguistically sensitive manner. Additionally, Medical Assistants will be responsible for making referrals to community services, providing program outreach, and performing other duties as assigned. If the apprentice is not certified at the time of hire, certification will be obtained before the LPN courses can be started.
At the end of the 2000 hours of work and training the LPN Apprentice will be qualified to sit for the NCLEX- PN licensing exam.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge and understanding of:

  • Primary health care and nursing activities as described in the Montana Nurse Practice Act;

EDUCATION/TRAINING/QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Training:

  • Will have experience in healthcare and have passed a Medical Assistant Certification course and/or meets the criteria for Certification.

Certifications:

  • Nationally recognized Medical Assistant Certification;
  • Other certifications may qualify at the discretion of the apprenticeship sponsors.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Fluent in the English language. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents;
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.

  • Mobility that permits the employee to move about in a variety of building settings;

Working Conditions:

  • Work indoors in a climate-controlled environment 95% of the time.
