  • Basic understanding of vehicle systems
  • Familiarity with tools and equipment used in automotive and mechanical repair

  • Understanding of basic mechanical terminology and shop procedures

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in an apprenticeship program for Heavy Duty Mechanic and/or Commercial Transport
  • Class 5 driver’s license or better (Class 2 or 3 driver’s license with Air Brakes)
Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE:

The Apprentice Mechanic assists the Journeyman/woman Mechanic with vehicle maintenance and repairs while gaining hands-on experience and technical knowledge. The apprentice mechanic supports daily operations by performing basic tasks, learning diagnostic procedures, and adhering to safety protocols.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist licensed mechanics with vehicle inspections, maintenance, and repair tasks
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, and filter replacements
  • Prepare tools, equipment, and parts for assigned repair jobs
  • Help with the disassembly and reassembly of engines, transmissions, brakes, and other components under supervision
  • Clean and organize the work area, tools, and shop equipment
  • Maintain accurate records of completed tasks and parts used
  • Follow all safety protocols and shop procedures to ensure a safe working environment
  • Operate shop tools and diagnostic equipment under supervision
  • Assist with road tests and systems diagnostics to identify mechanical issues
  • Support inventory control by helping track parts, tools, and materials
  • Uphold cleanliness, professionalism, and quality standards in all work performed
