QUALIFICATIONS:

Responsibilities

WHAT DOES THE JOB ROLE INVOLVE?

DMS Steelworks are looking for an Apprentice Fabricator Welder who will learn to construct metal structures and components by cutting, shaping, and joining metal using various techniques. They will work with technical drawings, use hand and power tools, and operate machinery under supervision. Key responsibilities include fabrication, welding, quality control, and maintaining a safe work environment. At the end of a three-year apprenticeship, they will achieve a NVQ Level 3 in Metal Fabrication.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Reading and interpreting technical drawings:

  • Learning to understand specifications and instructions to fabricate parts correctly.

Cutting, forming, and joining metal:

  • Using various tools and techniques to shape metal to the required specifications.

Welding:

  • Developing skills in welding processes like MIG and TIG, ensuring joints meet quality standards.

Assembling components:

  • Using hand and power tools to put together fabricated parts.

Quality control:

  • Inspecting finished products to ensure they meet quality requirements and making necessary adjustments.

Maintaining a safe work environment:

  • Following safety procedures, using equipment safely, and keeping the workspace organized.

General duties:

  • May include tasks like stock control, checking deliveries, and maintaining equipment.
