Our award-winning Apprentice Program offers a hands-on learning experience designed to set you up for success. You’ll be mentored by seasoned professionals and supported by structured training plans to help you become the skilled tradesperson you aspire to be. With real-world exposure to the mining industry, our program combines practical experience with dedicated support.
We offer a family-friendly 8/6 roster and a progressive training model that makes it easy to transition into mining and FIFO life.

Westgold currently has multiple opportunities for both entry-level and mature-age apprentices to join our Mobile Maintenance and Fixed Plant Maintenance teams. We welcome motivated individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and identities who are seeking long-term careers in the following trade areas:

  • Electrical Apprentice (Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician)
  • Auto Electrical Apprentice (Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology)
  • Boilermaker Apprentice (Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade ( Boilermaking /welding))
  • Diesel Fitter Apprentice (Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology)
  • Light Vehicle Fitter Apprentice (Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology)
  • Mechanical Fitter Apprentice (Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade)

What are we looking for in an apprentice?
We are looking for individuals:
• from diverse backgrounds that have digital and numerical literacy awareness
• with developed fine motor skills for using essential tools
• with analytical and creative thinking skills
• with an agile and flexible approach to life and learning
• who are motivated, self-aware and curious
• that have an affinity for understanding how things work and wanting to solve problems
Essential attributes:
• The right to work in Australia
• Current C-Class driver’s licence
• National Police Clearance
Additional desirable attributes:
• Pre-trade qualifications in mechanical engineering, automotive or electrical
• Work experience in mechanical engineering, automotive, electrical or trade assisting
• Mathematics and/or physics at senior high school
