Overview
PHC are a firmly established market leader in the distribution of building repair and maintenance products who are looking to expand further with the addition of an enthusiastic, professional and results-focused Purchasing & Inventory Administrator apprentice at our central-Bristol distribution centre.
We are looking for a candidate who can pick up processes quickly, has excellent attention to detail and an aptitude for learning about the characteristics of the products which we distribute. To succeed in this role, we will require you to be able to multi-task and work quickly and accurately, independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities
The role entails: -
- Performing day-to-day purchasing and stock administration duties
- Generating, authorising, and progressing purchase orders
- Negotiating with suppliers to achieve preferable discounts and pricing terms, updating our IT system as required
- Corresponding with suppliers and colleagues by email, telephone, and face to face
- Supporting our existing sales teams with order, product, and sourcing information
In addition, the position includes various responsibilities, including: -
- Building sound working relationships with supply chain partners
- Providing support to our Inventory Manager in administering product data
- Assisting with product specification, rationalisation and branch stocking strategies
- Supply chain management and optimisation activities
Hours
- 40 hours per week Monday-Friday
Required experience
- Attention to detail and a professional manner
- Solid MS excels skills
- Excellent communication skills
- A shrewd mind, with strong focus on saving pennies as well as pounds
- Technical product aptitude

Remuneration package
- A competitive salary + bonus dependent on age and experience.
- Enrolment in a level 3 Procurement and supply assistant course, typically lasting 18 months. (Our ‘in house’ training manager will be there to support you all the way)
- After successful completion of the apprenticeship, an offer of full time permanent employment will be made.

Qualifications required
Applicants for this role should ideally have GCSEs in the A*-D range, including Maths and English (or equivalent).
Training to be provided
- Level 3 Procurement and supply assistant course
- Full on the job training and support from our in house training manage
- Specialist training in Inventory and Product Management.
- Regular visits from a college Assessor.
- Functional skills - Maths, English and ICT
