This role would support our talented team in Oxford, MD. Key duties and responsibilities Assist in the installation, removal, and maintenance of masts, booms, and other spars. Install and troubleshoot standing rigging (the wires that support the mast) and running rigging (the ropes that control sails). Help with splicing ropes, fabricating custom components, and maintaining hardware. Learn to inspect and diagnose issues with the rigging, sails, and other marine systems. Learn to use specialized tools and equipment, including those for working at height on masts. Requirements Physical ability: Must be able to lift 50+ pounds, stand for long periods, climb, and work in various weather conditions and heights. Technical aptitude: Knowledge of basic hand tools Ability to learn and follow technical instructions. Problem-solving: An aptitude for hands-on problem-solving is essential. Teamwork: Must be able to work effectively with and assist experienced crew members and yard staff. Knowledge: Familiarity with boats or a marina environment. Learning and growth Apprentices will receive on-the-job training, shadowing experienced riggers to learn essential skills. The role provides the opportunity to earn while learning, with the goal of advancing to a full rigger position. The apprenticeship may also involve exposure to other marine skills, depending on the specific program.
