Your role

Working within London Heathrow Airport, the Apprentice Service Technician will develop the skills needed to perform maintenance duties that keep our automated baggage systems running efficiently. Over time, you will work towards becoming a fully qualified Service Technician. During your apprenticeship, you will be involved in:

  • Developing the skills to maintain and optimise the baggage system’s performance.
  • Assisting in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical, electrical, and control-related faults.
  • Supporting both reactive and planned maintenance tasks alongside experienced technicians.
  • Learning how to use maintenance management systems like Maximo for logging work and reporting faults.
  • Gaining experience with automated systems and working within a live airport environment.

As an apprentice, you’ll play an important role in maintaining the baggage system while learning from experienced technicians. We expect the following:

  • A 4 or above in both Maths and English or Functional Skills.
  • The ability to complete a Level 3 Mechatronics apprenticeship, which will involve attending college.
  • A willingness to work shifts, including nights, to gain real-world experience.
  • A hands-on approach and eagerness to learn from experienced technicians.
  • Good problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
  • The ability to follow safety procedures and work in a fast-paced environment.
