POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides academic and career advising for special populations (apprenticeship programs, veterans & veteran dependents, and international students) and career services while upholding academic and student services standards. Serves as an ambassador of the College and helps communicates the College’s mission to both internal and external communities; especially as it relates to career services. Builds relationships with business and industry with explaining and developing apprenticeships and the College’s processes in career planning.

• Adheres to ethical standards including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines, and maintain confidential information.
• Knowledgeable about appropriate federal, state, and college policies, practices, and procedures, including VA benefits, services, program requirements and state training programs.
• Ability to work as a team player and collaborate with colleagues. Works collaboratively with the Marketing Department to develop messaging, advertising, and communication to further the reach of internship, apprenticeship, and sponsorship programs at the college.,

Education and/or Work Experience:

• Associate’s Degree in Business, Human Relations, Education, Social Services or a Technical Engineering field, required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Relations, Education, Social Services or a Technical Engineering field is preferred.
• Experience in working with others in industry, specifically apprenticeships is preferred

• Provides academic and career advising to incoming, returning, and continuing veteran students, veteran dependents, apprentices, sponsored students, and international students, including course recommendations and registration, academic and career planning, job search preparation, and academic support referrals. Assists students in navigating non-cognitive barriers to achieve academic success. Implements and assists with specific outreach initiatives that enhance the retention of students.
• Works with local business and industry partners on employee sponsorships, apprenticeships, and State of Ohio sponsored training opportunities. Serves as an institutional point person with business and industry partners to serve their employees. Communicates opportunities with academic deans and workforce development leaders.
• Communicates with apprenticeship and sponsorship companies related to funding programs. Assists in verifying course completion and issuing TechCred certificates to company partners.
• Maintains and updates the academic apprenticeship program sheets, and academic apprenticeship certificates with changes, either due to the changes by the company or by internal processes.
• Troubleshoots issues related to internships, capstones, apprenticeships, sponsorships, and programs including running curriculum checks/audits, sponsorship forms, and billing related issues.
• Provide semester and annual reporting on internship, capstone, apprenticeship, and sponsorship enrollments, completions, graduation and career outcomes, etc. to college administration. Works with county and state agencies to assist in management and documentation of apprenticeship programming, as needed.
• Utilizes and manages software related to apprenticeships and company sponsorships.
• Serve as a single point of contact for International Students on course registration and academic support services.
• Serve as a single point of contact for Veteran and Veteran Dependent students utilizing VA Educational Benefits, mentoring programs, student veteran organization, provision of graduation honor cords, and on campus resources. Serve as a backup to the School Certifying Official (SCO). Explains the variety of education programs available to VA beneficiaries and active-duty military members. Completes ongoing Veterans Affairs/Department of Defense training and other military training and higher education professional development courses.
• Form relationships with off-campus stakeholders such as PreK-12 Purple Star Schools, Ohio Department of Veterans Services, U.S. Veterans Affairs, Ohio Department of Higher Education, Ohio National Guard, and other related community organizations to strengthen resources and policies geared toward military-connected students.
• Implement career assessment instruments (e.g. YouScience, Guided Pathways) and career information gathering activities to facilitate student planning.
• Assist prospective and current students seeking career planning one-on-one, in groups and through classroom presentations.
• Assist students and alumni seeking employment assistance (full-time, part-time, volunteer) with all job search subjects and issues, primary administrator of online job board system.
• Coordinate the implementation of workshops and seminar courses designed to teach students the skills to effectively search for employment.
• Coordinate the Cooperative Learning Programs, Internships, and Capstones with faculty, students, and employers. Teach the EBE2980-Cooperative Education Seminar.
• Work with government agencies to maintain a presence on campus, support students in interviewing, employment, etc.
• Coordinate various Career Service programs and special events including the annual career fair, mock interviews, etc.
• Develop a regional and national presence in professional organizations to represent/promote Terra and learn about best practices for Career Services
