MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference is for an individual with a professional architecture license recognized by the Kansas Board of Technical Professions and a minimum of three years of experience as a licensed architect. Experience with code compliance is preferred.
Alternate is for an individual with of 10 – 15 years of experience in project management, code and plan review and professional architectural services.
Valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

The primary duties and responsibilities for the full-performance level Licensed Architect position are as follows:

  • Will perform building plan and code reviews of design projects prepared by design professionals to determine compliance to established building/fire codes and accessibility regulations. Will be required to coordinate and manage numerous project reviews of varying project types and complexities and will focus on obtaining resolution to code compliance issues of design documents and during construction. Projects include wide range of types such as higher education, medical & veterinary schools and hospitals, historic preservation, correctional facilities, laboratories, motor vehicle buildings, veteran’s homes, athletic facilities and offices.
  • Will perform project planning services for agencies that do not have professional A/E staff for building construction projects.
  • Will act as the coordinator, liaison, overseer and expediter between the project architect and the state agency. Provides leadership in organizing and prioritizing decision making required and advises and consults with project architect and state agency on the building design to obtain the performance required by the state agency. Attends project meetings during design and construction to observe progress and to make recommendations. Oversees project architect’s delivery of construction observation and administration services and will approve project architect service fee invoices.
  • Assist with Architect and Engineering consultant interviews and help manage A/E on-call contracts.
  • Coordinates bidding procurement processes, issues notice to proceed, evaluates change orders and final contractor applications for payments on projects
