Job Description Dutton + Associates, a Timmons Group company (D+A), is seeking a full-time Architectural Historian for our Cultural Resources Group based in our Richmond, VA office location. The Architectural Historian is responsible for conducting investigations involving historic buildings, structures, landscapes, and a wide variety of related property types. They will work collaboratively with other members of the architectural history team and the overall cultural resources group to ensure that project goals are met. The Architectural Historian will contribute to project compliance survey reports, National Register nominations, and other cultural resource documents as needed. Regional overnight travel is expected. *Please submit at least two writing samples with your resume.* Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to: Planning and conducting historical field surveys and preparing detailed architectural and historical reports. Assembling historic resource site file forms, site maps, and photographs. Evaluating the significance of historic resources according to established criteria, such as the National Register of Historic Places. Assessing potential project effects to historic resources under provisions of Section 106 of the National Register of Historic Preservation Act. Conducting archival research as necessary. Performing other duties as required. Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to: M.A. or M.S. in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or closely related field from a recognized program is required At least 5 years previous experience in Cultural Resource Management is preferred. Meet or exceed the SOI Standards for Architectural History. Proficient with ArcGIS. Possess a strong understanding of architectural styles, construction techniques, and the historical context of buildings and landscapes. Strong writing and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate and interact with other members of the team, clients, and the public. Ability to work on simultaneous tasks while meeting project deadlines and adhering to project budgets. Experience in conducting historic land records research. Ability to work both independently as well as collaborate on a team. Possess a valid driver’s license. Ability to read and navigate maps.
