JOB OVERVIEW Architectural Technologist: Reporting to the Senior Architect, the Architectural Technologist assists in the development of architectural plans, studies, designs and specifications documents, and coordinates with related building and site infrastructure disciplines for NCC projects. In support of the Senior Architect, the Architectural Technologist provides advice, conducts technical research and provides information in the architecture discipline. Architectural Designer: Reporting to the Senior Architect or Chief Architecture, the Architectural Designer contributes to the development of architectural concepts, plans, studies, design documentation, and specifications for NCC projects. The Architectural Designer supports design development across all project phases and coordinates with related building and site infrastructure disciplines. Under the direction of the Senior Architect, the Architectural Designer conducts design and technical research, prepares architectural documentation, and provides professional input and analysis in support of project delivery and architectural decision making. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION Architectural Technologist: A diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in Architectural Technology or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience. Architectural Designer: Degree from a recognized post secondary institution in architecture, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that meets the requirements toward architectural licensure in Canada EXPERIENCE: A minimum of five to eight years of experience in delivering architectural services, including; • Schematic Design and Design development, including preparation of presentations and illustrations (2D drawings and diagrams and 3D visualizations and renderings). • Technical execution, documentation and development of contract documents, including drawings and specifications for a variety of project types and scales. • Contract administration and construction phase services including, submittal review, responses to RFIs, site reviews, field reports, deficiency tracking, and review of construction progress. KNOWLEDGE • Of building construction, materials, assemblies, and high performance building envelope systems (air, vapour, thermal, and moisture control), • Of AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM based coordination • Of building codes, standards, and professional practice requirements, ABILITIES • Analytical skills to develop, coordinate, and review technical documentation. • To interpret and apply code provisions. • Effective problem solving skills to identify and resolve technical issues during design and construction through multidisciplinary collaboration. • Clear communication skills to convey design or technical information, support coordination, and assist with contract administration and project close out. WORKING CONDITIONS • Regular site visits are required to assess contractors’ performance, which involves remaining upright and mobile on uneven ground and wearing personal protective equipment. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace.
