Boasting four operating rooms, two procedure rooms, a catheterization lab and 14 pre- and post-recovery beds as well as transforming 27,717 square feet of adjacent space into a medical office building that features exam and procedure rooms, and community space, we are poised to bring quality, patient-centric multi-specialty care to the Lake Havasu Community. Position Overview: Convergence Health is searching for a patient centric Surgical First Assistant (FA), who will support our multi-specialty surgeons, collaborate and be part of an integrated care team as well as ensure quality and seamless care to our patients. The FA will assist surgeons across a broad spectrum of specialties during operative and other invasive procedures in accordance with credentials, privileges, experience, education and competence. You will focus on continually learning to adapt to our growing multi-specialty services that currently include Orthopedics, Women’s Health, ENT, General Surgery, Podiatry, and Ophthalmology. We are looking for someone who strives in a fast-paced environment and promotes a culture of excellence. Primary Responsibilities: Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Review patient health data relevant to the operative or invasive procedure (eg, history and physical). Function as a first assistant during operative and other invasive procedures by providing exposure through correct use of instruments, retractors, suction, and sponging techniques as directed by the surgeon Handle and dissect tissues as directed by the surgeon clamping blood vessels, coagulating bleeding points, and ligating vessels as directed by the surgeon Placing drains as directed by the surgeon; and suturing muscle, fascia, subcutaneous, and skin as directed by the surgeon. Serve as a resource for peers, colleagues, and others in relation to first assistant activities. Maintain regulatory, credentialing, and privileging requirements necessary for practice as a first assistant. Participate in ongoing educational and competency verification activities applicable to first assistant activities. Maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information. Maintaining scope of practice, assisting team members in other areas when not scrubbed in (i.e. stocking various areas of the facility, survey for out date assisting team members in preop/PACU/CathLab. Function as a flexible member of the surgical team to fulfill roles as needed to include but not limited to surgical technologist and first assistant. Requirements Education/Licensure/Certification — Mandatory: Graduate from an accredited First Assistant program Certified surgical assistant (CSA), Certified surgical first assistant (CSFA), Surgical assistant, certified, (SA-C) or equivalent certification Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Qualifications Required: 5 years perioperative services experience Completion of the organization’s credentialing process Basic computer skills (eg, Microsoft® Word) Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Physically demanding, high-stress environment Exposure to blood, sharp instruments and other devices, body fluids and tissue, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients Manual and finger dexterity Hand and eye coordination Standing and walking for extensive periods of time Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range Working under stressful conditions
