Description Title: Area Engineer Location: California Department: Technical FLSA Status: Exempt Reports To: VP Operations or Technical Team Lead Employment Type: Regular Full-Time Overview of Position: Under general direction, performs all conventional aspects of engineering work for subsurface and surface operations in assigned fields; conducts engineering studies, evaluates feasibility and economics of proposed projects; resolves existing or potential production problems; generates shareholder value through the identification and implementation of field enhancement/development projects; and develops and maintains production, injection, capital, and reserves forecasts. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: · Conducts production surveillance of thermal or primary projects, identifies optimization opportunities, submits proposals, and coordinates implementation and follow-up activities. · Identifies methods to improve production from active wells, return idle wells to service, repair damaged wells, or abandon wells as needed; prepares well work proposals and coordinates execution with vendors and field operations staff. · Monitors, optimizes, and remediates artificial lift and injection wells to maintain efficient recovery processes. · Provides engineering support to field staff for installation, operation, optimization, and maintenance of production facilities from subsurface to sales points. · Maintains programs within budget, ensures timely delivery of work, and completes all assignments to meet governmental and contractual requirements. · Identifies equipment and procedures necessary to implement new development or redevelopment projects. · Develops production, injection, capital, and expense forecasts for project planning and budgeting. · Ensures accurate production allocation by reviewing well tests and updating well status regularly. · Interfaces with Environmental, Health & Safety staff and regulatory agencies to conduct safe operations and ensure regulatory compliance. · Drives compliance with UIC, MIT I/II, and all other applicable regulatory requirements within assigned areas. · Conducts reservoir surveillance and recommends optimization strategies for production, injection, and reserves. · Performs field and reservoir studies including decline curve analysis, material balance, volumetrics, thermal analytical modeling, and economic analyses. · Leads, along with geologists, full-life-cycle reservoir depletion planning and supports the construction and use of reservoir simulation models. · Identifies, evaluates, and initiates new drill opportunities and workovers. · Prepares production forecasts, operating plans, and expenditure forecasts; evaluates economic models for budgeting and asset valuation. · Conducts asset evaluations. · Performs all other job-related duties as assigned. Requirements Education and Experience: · Bachelor’s degree in engineering. · 5 years of production engineering experience. Reservoir engineering experience is highly desired. · Any combination of education and experience providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position may be considered. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Required · Knowledge of oil & gas production operations and facilities. · Knowledge of remedial activities, artificial lift, thermal recovery, well stimulations and new well completions. · Experience using field surveillance/management software. · Proficiency in use of a personal computer and Microsoft Office. · Verbal communication skills that afford the incumbent the ability to build & maintain positive and effective working relationships with all levels of management, field operations personnel, community stakeholders, and contract personnel. · Demonstrated strong written communication skills to include the ability to prepare concise reports and effectively maintain required records. · Strong computer software skills including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. · Ability to work independently and maintain flexibility in prioritizing work responsibilities in a dynamic environment. · Strong organization and time management skills enabling the incumbent to meet deadlines. · Valid California driver’s license with a driving record deemed acceptable by the company’s auto insurance carrier. Desired · Experience working with ARIES and/or Maximo commercial oil and gas economics software. · Experience working with Oil Field Manager (OFM), XSPOC, and or other similar software. Environment & Physical Demands: Work is conducted both indoors within a professional office setting and in outdoor environments. Indoors, the temperature and humidity are generally controlled, but conditions can fluctuate. Duties will require repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers; visual acuity for reading computer screens and/or preparing data; communicating with others to exchange information. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate, with standard office conversations and equipment in use. Light to moderate lifting (up to 20 pounds) of office supplies may be required occasionally. Position may require infrequent trips to field locations where they may be exposed to a range of environmental conditions. Outdoors, the incumbent is exposed to a wide range of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures (both heat and cold), wetness, and humidity. The essential functions of this position include adjusting/moving in all directions; sitting, standing, walking, walking on uneven surfaces, bending, kneeling, stooping; inspecting objects; operating a motor vehicle; working near moving mechanical parts, tight spaces, and on high and precarious surfaces; and/or communicating with others to exchange information. Exposure to environmental elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, odors, and loud noises should be expected. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all tasks is required. Incumbents must adhere to all safety protocols, especially those concerning heat illness prevention (access to water and shade).
