Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Associate Director, Administration, the Area Manager is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing business procedures, policies, and processes to support the Administrative Service Centre (ASC) Arts-Ferrier which include the departments/units of Art History & Communications Studies, English, DLTC (Département des littératures de langue française, de traduction et de création), French Language Centre, within the Faculty of Arts. Performs some responsibilities related to Human Resources, Finance, and Operation. Develop and implement best practices to enhance the operation of the unit. Participate in the implementation of new initiatives that support the strategic direction of the ASC. Directly manage the HR and Operations team of the ASC Arts-Ferrier.
Primary Responsibilities:

Must be fluently bilingual in English and French (spoken and written). Strong knowledge of McGill’s Human Resources and Academic Affairs practices, policies and procedures for administrative and academic staff. Knowledge of Workday is an asset. Experience managing a unit and supervising a multi-generational staff in a unionized environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team and to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of academic and administrative staff. Proven ability to communicate effectively and to interact on a professional level with internal and external clients. Strong ability to deal with stressful situations, adapt to change and be a change agent. Proficient in recruiting, appointing and onboarding staff. Ability to streamline processes and identify areas of improvement with human resources. Proven organizational and project management skills. Knowledge of building maintenance and Lenel administration is an asset. Strong understanding of the various collective agreements, AMURE, MCLIU, and AMUSE. Demonstrated ability to work within a computerized environment (word, excel, databases: Workday, FIS, HRIS, SIS and Minerva, and Drupal). Must be able to work on site at McGill downtown campus for 3 days per week. Likely to be able to work from home for 1 or 2 days per week subject to operational needs and supervisor approval.
