About the Opportunity
Service Stream’s Utilities division are currently seeking an Area Manager to join our growing company. Collaborating with your team, you will oversee the successful execution of your allocated Area for Mechanical, Electrical and Controls Systems (MECS) maintenance in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. The Area Manager will provide strong leadership and direction to their team, directing all activity necessary for the safe, efficient and effective provision of exemplary service delivery to customers in the nominated geographical region. You will ensure that the program of works is delivered in strict adherence to all specifications, timelines, and budgetary constraints, while also meeting commercial, HR, safety, quality, environmental, and community standards.

Location: 1 x Metro & 1 x Regional
Reporting Line: Operations Manager
Key Responsibilities

This critical role will oversee the development, growth, and profitability of our Maintenance Contract, driving innovation, and delivering exceptional results. This role will require the operative to possess a deep understanding of the water industry, demonstrated leadership expertise, stakeholders’ relationship management and a proven track record of success

  • Manage resources to deliver the program of work within budget, time, quality, and regulatory standards. Monitor workflows, setting short-term and long-term goals for the team.
  • Track progress against Total Cost of Maintenance (TCOM), contractual arrangements, and delivery aspects toensure tasks are on schedule, within budget, and of the highest quality. Take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Lead risk management efforts, ensuring compliance with legislative, pre-contract, and commercial obligations,including adherence to relevant building codes.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships by engaging stakeholders actively, fostering positive relationships with clients,subcontractors, the community, and external parties.
  • Oversee the execution of supply chain and warehouse activities.
  • Collaborate with the Asset and Optimisation team to ensure industry best practices and drive continuous improvement in asset management practices
  • Verify that maintenance schedules reflect the correct sequencing and align with preventive maintenance logic, leading teams to establish and update procedures that maintain alignment with baseline schedules Review planning and scheduling for accuracy, quality, and consistency.
  • Work closely with MECS Commercial team to develop and maintain effective networks and supply chain relationships to drive annual cost efficiencies and operational enhancements
  • Ability to provide coverage and be available to the ECC (Emergency Control Centre) during 24/7 wet weather events when triggered by Urban Utilities.
  • Ability to participate in a roster for escalation, ensuring timely notification
  • Participate in an operational roster organisation, ensuring availability for first response and workload management, while also serving as a point of escalation and assistance during periods of high demand to support team efficiency and service continuity.

About You

  • 10 plus years’ experience in delivery of Water Maintenance Programs
  • Delivery of maintenance activities in both water and wastewater treatment and networks assets advantageous.
  • Management of budgets up to $20m.
  • Willingness to gain expertise in strategic procurement, contractor management and stakeholder engagement
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on building positive relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to upskill and undertake additional training for ongoing development
  • Electrical licence &/or Mechanical qualification
  • Formal Safety Training (desirable)
  • Experience with plant and equipment associated with wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations.
  • Sound knowledge of computer maintenance management systems
