JOB DESCRIPTION

We look forward to reading your application for the role of Armed Police Training and Range Licensing Assessor
The selected candidate will:
Work in partnership to support those working in armed policing, through setting standards, sharing knowledge and good practice and supporting professional development. Contribute to improving knowledge and practice within a College professional community. Offer practical support for policing in line with the College strategies and business plan. Assess annual firearms training portfolio submissions and prepare detailed evidence-based reports which inform the relicensing process to ensure force/organisation compliance with the associated standards. To provide training, advice and support to forces and related organisations in respect of the four-year re-licencing process for firearms training to ensure they achieve and maintain full licence status.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Confidently engage and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to share information, resources and support. Invest time to develop a common focus and genuine positive team spirit where colleagues feel valued and respect one another, taking into account different individual needs, views, and ideas, championing inclusion and equality of opportunity for all. Be inquisitive and able to challenge constructively.
  • Undertake the licensing of all UK police forces/agencies, including detailed assessment of evidence portfolios annually and quadrennial on-site inspections to ensure that all UK armed policing related roles are trained safely and in accordance with national training and assessment standards and relevant regulatory requirements. Produce evidence-based reports highlighting non-compliance issues and areas for development where appropriate.
  • Develop methods to educate and advance understanding of the licensing process, addressing concerns appropriately, to improve outcomes. As the primary point of contact within the College, provide expert advice and solutions for forces on armed policing training licence compliance and associated issues. Identify and promulgate lessons learnt via national seminars, Knowledge Hub and engagement.

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

  • Qualified trainer to meet the Police Sector Standard for the Training of Trainers: Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training, Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS Level 4) or NVQ Level 4 Diploma in Learning and Development or equivalent.
  • Experienced and current assessor competent to the Police Sector Standard for the Training of Assessors.
  • Qualified as a Police Range Safety Inspector.
  • Recent UK CFI/DCFI experience.
  • Qualified, competent and current in the management of Health and Safety – must be Health and Safety qualified to NEBoSH level as a minimum (or be prepared to undertake this training).

We’ll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

  • Qualified trainer to meet Police Sector Standard for Training of Trainers: Level 4 Certificate Education & Training, Certificate Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS Level 4) or NVQ Level 4 Diploma Learning and Development or equivalent.
  • Experienced and current assessor competent to the Police Sector Standard for the Training of assessors.
  • Qualified as a Police Range Safety Inspector.
  • Qualified, competent and current in the management of Health and Safety – must be Health and Safety qualified to NEBoSH level as a minimum (or prepared to undertake training).
  • Recent experience of CFI or DCFI with a College of Policing licensed UK police force.

This role is available for 23 months as a fixed term appointment or as a secondment opportunity to:

  • colleagues employed directly by the College or the Civil Service. Please note you will be required to obtain the written support of your line manager prior to submitting your application.
  • serving police officers substantive in the rank of Inspector or Sergeant , or those officers suitably qualified for temporary promotion in the rank of Constable. All applicants must have the support of their Chief Officer which must be of NPCC rank, i.e., CC, ACC or DCC and this must accompany an application
