The Army’s whole force is made up of over 100,000 employees from across the Regular Army, Reserve Army, Civil Service and Contractors. The 7,000 Civil Servants within this workforce work at over 300 locations in the UK and overseas. It is a diverse workforce, with roles from trainers, HR, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, accountants, project managers, and policy professionals. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army.
In Defence, our people come first because they are the foundation on which our strategic advantage is built. They are our most important asset and in this role you will play a part in ensuring we are able to attract, retain and foster the talent and skills we need to succeed.
This role is part of the Regimental Headquarters for the King’s Royal Hussars with a primary focus on business management. You will be working as part of a friendly, professional Team in a busy but rewarding environment. If you are passionate about the value of effective stakeholder communication and engagement in realising business outcomes, and have a genuine interest in supporting our Regimental family this could be the ideal role for you!
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As part of our senior leadership team, you will be intrinsic to supporting the delivery of activity relating to communications, heritage, commemoration and ceremonial, welfare and benevolence and resettlement, as well as a myriad of other activities that benefit our community. You will be supported by a small team of staff who will aid in this service delivery, but you will be responsible for oversight and coordination. The heart of your role will be communicating and engaging with our stakeholder community - those still serving, our veterans, our families and those who support us.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • HQ Team. Manage the HQ Team with confidence and empathy, creating a sense of purpose, and supporting them to give of their best, both as individuals and a team.
  • Sustain the Regiment. This is a broad responsibility, requiring you to act as the Business Manager for the Colonel of the Regiment. Some of the activities you can expect to undertake are:
  • Communications & Engagement. Maintain effective engagement with those serving, veterans and their families, as well as friends of the Regiment by utilising all appropriate communications channels such as e-newsletters, emails, websites, social media sites and the Regiment’s annual journal.
  • Managing our Regimental Charities. You will therefore need to be comfortable with managing a budget and assuring budgetary activity against the standards of the Charity Commission regulations.
  • Meetings: Act as the secretary for Regimental Meetings, taking Minutes and recording actions
  • Events. Organise/co-ordinate special events in conjunction with the Assistant Regimental Secretary.
  • Assurance: Provide the role of Data Protection Assistant, ensuring compliance with General Data Protection Regulations
  • Support to the Soldier. Providing support to Regimental Rear Operational Groups. This could be through taking a key role in dealing with operational casualties, including aftercare, ensuring that a robust casualty care system for Regimental wounded, injured and sick is maintained. It may also include overseeing the welfare and care of soldiers and families, as well as fostering close relationships with supporting charities and the voluntary sector to secure funds for the Regiment.
  • Support to Veterans. Coordinating the provision of benevolence support to all former Regimental personnel and their families in accordance with Regimental policy. Also supervising transition support provided by the Army/Regiment and local services to veterans, working closely with the voluntary Sector to secure support and funds for the Regimental Family and representing the Regiment in association matters.
  • Engagement and Heritage. Work alongside the Commanding Officer to maintain the Regimental footprint in recruiting areas whilst providing Home Base support for Freedom/Homecoming Parades and other events in these areas. Also assist with the management and assurance of the Regimental Museum in accordance with the Regimental Heritage policy and Army policy.
