QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Expressive Therapy, Art Education or related field preferred.
• Significant and demonstrated experience instructing in area of discipline may be considered in lieu of education.
• Two years’ experience in area of specialized Art
• One year of experience working with people with disabilities.
• Experience working with culturally diverse populations and multi-challenged populations preferred.
• Bilingual preferred.
• Must maintain PMT and CPR certifications.
• Valid Driver’s License and must maintain a satisfactory driving record.
• You must have a car on site during your shift to transport yourself and/or individuals served to community sites in all weather conditions and throughout all neighborhoods.
• Depending on assignment, must work in a variety of settings, weather conditions and locations.
• Knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office and the internet.
• Work a flexible schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
• Work independently; utilize good judgment and possess a strong sense of initiative.
• Communicate clearly in oral and written form on a constant basis.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have physical endurance to stand and walk and skills to participate and model physical fitness activities for up to 120 minutes (about 4 hours) at a time.
• May require the ability to transfer individuals requiring personal hygiene care.
• Have physical endurance to use physical crisis intervention techniques which may include restraining individuals.
• Provide physical interventions which may include lifting, mobility, first aid, and safety evacuations.
• Must be able to move and lift weights up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis.

JOB PURPOSE:

Develop and implement an expressive art program which interfaces with the clinical, behavioral, and sensory needs of each participant to include a variety of disciplines to provide opportunities for individuals to explore in the realm of different art techniques.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Be expertly familiar with a range of mediums, techniques, and styles which are facilitated in the service of the client
• The art elicited from the artists should reflect TKC mission of exhibiting and selling ‘gallery ready’ art, by being aware of stylistic, trends that bring a level of sophistication despite whatever the functioning level of the artist may be
• Familiarity with art history and pulse of contemporary art to enhance the breadth of references that range beyond what might be a stereotypical or confined style (while respecting that style)
• Be attuned to the artists needs from moment to moment, offering the right brush or tool or paper, or theme, in a way that builds in success, and facilitates and enhances their own artist vision.
• Take direction and guidance from the manager/supervisor’s suggestions, that specific material, technique or thematic content as well as special projects that reflect TKC mission. To work collaboratively with cohorts as part of a team effort, insuring a productive and pleasant work environment.
• Participate in in-service training programs and required TKC/DDS trainings.
• Maintain accurate individual records and files according to Agency and funding agency standards.
• Maintain open communication with families, guardians and outside agencies as relevant to individual needs.
• Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
• Provide hands-on personal care which may include toileting, feeding, cleaning and all other activities of daily living skills as required.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
