Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager of Child Life the Art Therapist will develop, administer, and coordinate art therapy in consultation with the multidisciplinary team and clinical/team lead. This position will be supported to deliver consistent weekly groups within the many programming spaces throughout the Stollery including individual patient sessions. As the Art Therapist within an acute care setting, you will meet the needs and therapeutic goals of each patient. Implement art interventions that facilitate non-artistic goals such as sensory stimulation, positive failure, free exploration and socialization. Participate in determining therapeutic objectives and goals from an art therapy perspective. Coordinate, organize and implement art therapy programs in accordance with the clinical programs. Ensure each patient’s physical, social, intellectual, spiritual and sensory emotional needs are met through group therapy in accordance with regulations. Develop and maintain accurate patient records and communication to support clinical programming.
Description:
As a Child Life Specialist, you will plan, develop, implement, coordinate and evaluate developmental and normalization activities including therapeutic play programs in order to further the social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth of children and adolescents. You will assess, research, plan, implement and evaluate appropriate play and developmental activities/interventions for children and families (both individual and in group settings). You will provide therapeutic play programs designed to reduce stress, help clients cope with hospitalization, promote development and independence. You will help prepare children for diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures through hospital play, demonstrations and discussions and introduce coping strategies and techniques to assist children and families during procedures. You will also provide diversion experiences and facilitate special events.
