MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Post Graduate degree/diploma in a recognized Art Therapy program
  • Successful completion of undergraduate degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, or Fine arts
  • Professional Membership in good standing with a Professional Art Therapy Association required- Canadian Art Therapy Association, Ontario Art Therapy Association, or American Art Therapy Association
  • Registered Member in good standing with a Regulatory College - College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)
  • Previous experience working with a pediatric population preferred
  • Excellent inter-personal skills
  • Ability to encourage creative thinking and risk-taking in a safe environment
  • Experience working within an interprofessional team preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Good computer literacy skills and the ability to learn new software
  • Knowledgeable and supportive of Person- Centered Care
  • Ability to organize time and meet deadlines and carry out all duties with minimal supervision, exercising independent, professional judgement
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrate up to date knowledge of current practices in the field of Art Therapy
  • Respect for the traditions, values and norms of clients and families originating from different cultures and ethnicities
Responsibilities
  • Plans and facilitates individual and group art therapy sessions. Contributes to determining clients’ emotional, social and physical level of functioning in order to verify their needs and establish a care plan and art therapy goals.
  • Implements treatment strategies that are consistent with the therapeutic objectives established in the treatment plans. Ensures that the necessary materials are on hand and orders more when necessary.
  • Regularly evaluates the effectiveness of the treatment plans and adapts them according to the evolving needs of each client.
  • Documents accordingly as per Holland Bloorview Documentation Policy
  • Maintains a supportive relationship with clients by providing a secure and stable therapeutic space
  • Maintains supportive relationships and responsive communication with client’s caregivers
  • Contributes to the rising awareness of art therapy services among professionals, volunteers and students
  • Works within the inter-disciplinary teams to effectively prioritize client needs and creatively address issues, supports and challenges as they arise in the client’s rehabilitation journey
  • Model developmentally appropriate activities and positive behaviour management techniques through daily contact with clients and colleagues
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Manager of Complex Continuing Care
