THE OPPORTUNITY:
After a successful pilot programme, the School of Physics and Astronomy is looking to host two artist students for a 8-week internship during the summer 2025. During this time, the interns will create original and stimulating illustrations / graphics / art pieces inspired by our research and our student and staff community.
The interns will collaborate with colleagues across the School, with a strong focus on members of the TAPLab group, which does research on DNA physics. The interns will explore the researchers and the work they do, to stimulate the production of original artwork, to be produced with input from our team. Final artwork to include around 10 elements of different scales (to be agreed at the start of position, depending on art specialties). After the placement, you will have the possibility to run paid arts-physics workshops for local community groups .
Applications from illustrators and glass artists are particularly welcome (we have a large professional glass kiln).
This post is fixed term (2 months) and full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.
The salary for this post is £23,414 per annum.
