JOB SUMMARY:

As the Arts Catalogue and Inventory Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the accurate documentation, tracking, and preservation of all artworks within our collection. You will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of our physical and digital inventory systems, ensuring all works are professionally catalogued and accessible for exhibitions, sales, loans, and research purposes.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in Art History, Fine Art, Library Information Science, or related field
  • Minimum 4-5 years of proven Experience in inventory management, cataloguing, or collections management—preferably within a gallery, museum, or cultural institution.
  • Strong knowledge of cataloging standards, archival practices, and art handling.
  • Experience using inventory management software or database systems (e.g., ArtBase, Collector Systems, TMS, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary African art and global art trends
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with contemporary African art is an added advantage
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and curate exhibitions and special projects.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive inventory of artworks and art objects across all gallery locations.
  • Catalogue new acquisitions and update records of existing works, ensuring accuracy in descriptions, provenance, condition, and location
  • Collaborate with curators, artists, and external institutions to gather and verify cataloguing information.
  • Oversee proper handling, storage, and labelling of artworks to ensure their preservation.
  • Manage digital and physical inventory systems, implementing best practices for archival documentation and accessibility.
  • Assist in preparing artworks for exhibitions, art fairs, loans, and transportation.
  • Conduct periodic audits and condition checks to ensure the integrity of records and artworks.
  • Support photography, digitisation, and metadata input for digital platforms.
  • Work closely with the gallery team to maintain alignment with exhibition schedules and curatorial plans.
