PERMANENT FULL-TIME POSITION IN NORTH VANCOUVER CLOSES: Open Until Filled BE PART OF SOMETHING MEANINGFUL!  Join the Ta7lnew̓ás Education Department as the ASA Education Assistant, where you will play a vital role in supporting learners of all ages on their educational journeys. Rooted in snew̓íyelh (teachings) and wenáxws (respect), this position helps empower Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw members through academic support, tutoring, and culturally grounded learning strategies. As part of our ASA team, you will provide direct student support, collaborate with tutors and teaching staff, and help coordinate after‑school programming that strengthens learning, confidence, and sense of belonging. Your work will contribute to community prosperity by supporting lifelong learning and academic success. WHAT YOU’LL DO * Support students individually and in small groups, reinforcing learning concepts and assisting with assignments. * Collaborate with tutors to develop and apply effective teaching strategies. * Participate in planning and coordination with tutors, teaching staff, counselors, administrators, and other departments. * Assist in the development and implementation of academic and social interventions. * Help identify and address educational barriers, working with tutors to support student learning plans. * Develop and maintain a resource library for student use. * Support teaching and non‑instructional tasks using current BC curriculum, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh land‑based teachings, and relevant cultural content. * Assist students with accessibility needs through established partnerships. * Prepare written reports and assist with lesson plans related to student progress. * Contribute collaboratively to department goals and the broader Squamish Nation Education team. * Follow workplace health and safety procedures and uphold organizational values. * Perform other related duties as required. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR * Education Assistant Certificate, or a Diploma in Education, Counselling, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field from a recognized post‑secondary institution. * Commitment to ongoing professional development in areas such as learning strategies, tutoring, and student support. * 2–3 years of directly related experience supporting students, tutoring, developing learning plans, or assisting instructors. * Experience working with adult learners is an asset. * Experience working in a First Nations environment preferred. * Intermediate proficiency with MS Office, the internet, and large‑scale databases; JD Edwards experience is an asset. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an adaptable, professional style. * High emotional intelligence, patience, and integrity. * Ability to remain calm and supportive in high‑pressure situations. * Highly organized and resourceful, with strong time management skills. * Positive, team‑oriented, and approachable. * Willingness to learn and expand Squamish Nation cultural and language knowledge within agreed timelines.
