__________ PROPERTY AND CAMPUS DEVELOPMENT DIVISION | KĀ RAWA ME TE WHANAKEHAKA PAPA TAURIMA The role | Te mahi As Asbestos Coordinator you will be responsible for coordinating asbestos-related compliance and supporting all associated works in line with the University of Otago Asbestos Management Plan. In this new role you will be working closely with Facilities Managers, Trades staff, and our Health & Safety Team to ensure accurate information flow, compliance, and smooth operational delivery across the organisation. You will help develop and implement policies and procedures and coordinate all: • Survey report management • Asbestos location information • Liaison with surveyors • Procurement processes • Staff training and guidance You will ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016 and other relevant legislation, while promoting best-practice standards across the University. Your skills and experience | Kā pūkeka me kā wheako We are seeking an experienced health and safety professional with a strong background in construction and asbestos compliance to join our team. You will bring sound knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016, and experience across complex building portfolios. This role requires excellent communication and reporting skills, the ability to manage competing priorities and a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement. Successful candidates will also have: • Demonstrated experience in a health and safety role, ideally within a fast-paced construction environment. • Strong working knowledge of asbestos regulations, relevant legislation, and quality standards. • Proven ability to coordinate projects, manage resources, and maintain compliance under strict deadlines. • Experience delivering training, contractor inductions, and engaging effectively with stakeholders at all levels. • Dedication to working in a culturally safe and respectful manner and understanding and appreciation of Te Ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, and Pasifika values.
