Job Details Ascend Program Volunteer Supervisor: Ascend Program Supervisor Last Modified: 9/16/24 Responsibility Statement: As an Ascend Program Volunteer you would be expected to embrace the vision of NHM as outlined by the BOD and Executive Director. Using leadership in your role, you would then ensure the implementation of that vision within your realm of influence in the organization. As a participant in the Ascend Program, you are committed to personal growth in various capacities. You must come with a heart that is eager to learn and be stretched. You will be called out of your comfort zone and asked to step, intentionally, into areas of growth. Participation in the programs and experiences within NHM that foster spiritual and personal growth is expected. Ascend Program Volunteers will be assigned to volunteer positions in the New Horizons Ministries workforce. Positions include, but are not limited to, Full Time Thrift Store Volunteer Full Time Daycare Volunteer Split Role Children’s Ministries/Thrift Store Split Role Thrift Store/ARK Ministries Additional tasks may be assigned at times by your supervisor. Consideration will be given to your current workload and duties. Key Result Areas: Spiritual Development – ministry flows from your personal relationship with Jesus. Strengthening that relationship is vital to your effectiveness as an ambassador for God. During your time here you will be discipled through mentorship, accountability and a program curated for growth. This is a program for single youth that are willing to refrain from emotional relationships with the opposite gender, including dating. This is to give our participants an opportunity to focus on personal development and ministering to others without distraction. We are not against healthy dating relationships between young men and women, we just ask for a commitment to refrain for the duration of your term in the program. Ministry Opportunities – Anywhere you work at NHM you’ll have the opportunity to minister to others. The thrift store’s ministry is two-fold. First, it provides vital income to the mission. Second, it gives staff a chance to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the hundreds of customers who enter our doors each day. In Daycare, Children’s Ministries or ARK Ministries, you’ll have opportunity to show the love of Christ to children and their parents in everyday situations. Apart from your work assignment, you will participate in VBS, prison programs, mentoring and after-hours ministries. Life Skills – living in a house with other young people will give you prime opportunities to learn how to live in a tight-knit community by pulling your own weight in practical ways through intentional training and everyday life. Certain meals are prepared by assigned cooks for the Ascend program participants as a group. If you have specific dietary needs, please notify the Ascend Program Supervisor. Job Training – specific job descriptions and training will be assigned according to the position you are assigned to. All Ascend Program participants will be assigned to a volunteer work position and expected to fulfil the requirements of that position. Noncompliance at the workplace will be addressed as noncompliance in this program. Compensation: Volunteer This is a volunteer position. No compensation will be paid for hours worked. Paid Medical Leave is included. A monthly stipend will be paid on the 5th of each month. No compensation will be provided for voluntary time and/or services provided and volunteered by the employee that fall outside the typical employee responsibilities for this job. Writing- Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience. Social Skills Coordination- Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions. Negotiation- Bringing others together and trying to reconcile differences. Service Orientation- Actively looking for ways to help people. Social Perceptiveness- Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do. Desktop Computer Skills Internet- Navigating the Internet to find information, including the ability to open and configure standard browsers; use searches, hypertext references, and transfer protocols; and send and retrieve electronic mail (e-mail). Navigation- Using scroll bars, a mouse, and dialog boxes to work within the computer's operating system. Being able to access and switch between applications and files of interest. Word Processing- Using a computer application to type text, insert pictures, format, edit, print, save, and retrieve word processing documents. Experience/Training Required: No experience or training is required.
