THE POSITION

Reporting to the Chinese Head Chef, this hands-on Asian Chef / Cook role is based in our Cantonese Restaurant - Grand Orient and is responsible for assisting the Chinese kitchen as well as supporting the Chinese Head Chef and Sous Chef in the day-to-day operation.
Whilst technical ability is key to achieving success in the role, passion for the Asian cuisine and your craft is equally paramount. With guidance from the Chinese Head Chef and Sous Chef you will be customer focused, have basic knowledge and experience preparing Asian / Chinese cuisine and be motivated to always exceed guest expectations.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with a minimum of five (2-3) years relevant experience.
  • Background in hot and cold Asian menu preparation, preferably Cantonese.
  • Possess basic wok skills with empathy toward inspiring a positive kitchen culture
  • Excellent culinary skills
  • A true passion and love of cooking and using local produce
  • Ability to contribute to develop and implement inspiring menu’s
  • Relevant Qualified Trade Certificates
Responsibilities
  • Assist and support the Chinese Head Chef and Sous Chef in the day-to-day activities within the operation.
  • Be hands on in the preparation and delivery of quality Cantonese food during both lunch and dinner service periods.
  • Provide support and input during menu planning stages and special events.
  • Have a solid understanding of Asian / Chinese cuisine concepts and be flexible with changes to menus.
  • Be able to prepare and serve menu items to the highest standard consistently for both lunch and dinner meal periods.
  • Appreciation of local and international food trends.
  • Maintain effect working relationships with all team members.
  • Be able to maintain effective communication with all team members within the hotel operation.
  • Maintaining hygiene, health, safety, cleanliness and environmental standards as per relevant hotel policies and government regulations.
