We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Assembly Operative to join our manufacturing team, specializing in the assembly of centrifugal pumps. This role includes the mechanical and electrical assembly of pump systems, with a strong emphasis on wiring and configuring 3-phase motors to specification. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in pump assembly and knowledge of industrial electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble centrifugal pumps and associated components according to technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Perform 3-phase motor wiring, including terminal configuration, cable routing, and connection in compliance with electrical standards and safety regulations.
  • Conduct mechanical fitting, alignment, and coupling of pump components and motors.
  • Inspect parts for accuracy, wear, or damage before assembly.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment following company policies and health & safety regulations.
  • Complete relevant documentation, including assembly checklists.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve assembly or design issues.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and product quality.

Key Requirements:

Essential:

  • Proven experience in mechanical assembly, preferably in the pump or rotating equipment industry.
  • Competent in 3-phase motor wiring.
  • Basic understanding of electrical safety and best practices.
  • Ability to use hand tools, torque wrenches, and electrical instruments.
  • Able to read and follow technical drawings and specifications.
  • Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Desirable:

  • Relevant vocational training or electrical/mechanical engineering qualifications (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds).
  • Experience working in a lean manufacturing environment.
  • Forklift or crane operation certification (if handling large pump assemblies).

Working Conditions:

  • Workshop environment with occasional lifting of heavy components (mechanical aids provided).
  • PPE and training provided.
  • May involve occasional overtime or shift work depending on production demands.
