Responsibilities

Gateshead Council’s ambitious Adult Social Care service are currently looking to recruit an Assessing Officer with relevant experience, to join our busy Single Point of Access team within the Front Door of Adult Social Care. As part of the team, you will be working with; a Team Manager, a Senior Practitioner, Social Workers, Assessing Officers and Social Work Auxiliaries.
The successful candidate should be qualified to GCSE Grade 9 – 5 or A - C in English and Maths or equivalent; have excellent communication skills; good IT skills and knowledge of relevant legislation and the ability to interpret this legislation and apply it to practice while adhering to the Local Authority’s statutory responsibilities.
You should have experience of the management and organisation of workload including the ability to appropriately prioritise tasks and manage competing demands, working with adults (and their carers) who have physical disabilities and/or mental health needs; the ability to work as a team member but also to use own initiative and have the ability to identify when support/advice/guidance is required.
It is also important that you have a commitment to equal opportunities, anti-oppressive practice, and inter-agency working. You should have a commitment to continuous professional development in addition to a willingness to undertake relevant training, as required by the Local Authority. You will also have a current driving licence and access to a car or mobility support.
