Department of Families is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Assessment Officer, within The Disability and Health Supports Unit (DHSU). DHSU is a provincial government unit dedicated to assessing requests for medical equipment, supplies and diet/nutritional supplements for individuals enrolled in the Employment and Income Assistance, Manitoba Supports for Persons with Disabilities Children’s disABILITY Services and Community Living disABILITY Services programs.

Reporting to the Manager, Disability and Health Supports Unit, the Assessment Officer is responsible for the performance of highly complex, specialized and administrative work to ensure the efficient and effective assessment and administration of medical equipment and supplies to individuals eligible under the Employment and Income Assistance (EIA), Manitoba Supports for Persons with Disabilities (MSPD), Childrens disABILITY (CDS) and Community Living disABILITY (CLDS) program. The responsibilities are performed within the context of organizational and policy constraints involving comprehensive knowledge of operational procedures, policies, legislation and procedures in consultation with case managers, health professionals and other stakeholders. The Assessment Officer has direct responsibility for the authorization of expenditures and renders decisions for various medical equipment and supplies. The Assessment Officer performs a critical role in keeping the supervisor and management team apprised of: current pressures on existing programs, trends in technological advancements in the field of medical equipment, innovative treatment protocols, user uptake, consumer satisfaction, contracted services, and issues that may suggest the need for regional training for the purpose of planning and budgeting. This position responds to inquiries from clients, health professionals, staff and other stakeholders.
