Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

The role
The Asset Planner, reporting to the Supervisor Asset Planning, plays a crucial role in the strategic planning and management of fixed plant and mobile plant assets. This role is responsible for overseeing work orders, scheduling, and forecasting to ensure efficient allocation of resources for operating expenditures. The Asset Planner ensures timely equipment maintenance and addresses plant asset demands, all while maintaining high-quality master data and providing detailed reporting. By fostering accuracy and efficiency in planning, this role directly supports business objectives, driving operational excellence and ensuring long-term asset reliability.

In this role, you will

  • Proactively demonstrates and support Newmont’s core values, safety standards and improvement initiatives in all aspects of work
  • Plans short, medium term maintenance plans (to be executed in the 2-12 week range) based on site priority, focused on reducing down-time, maintenance costs and improving reliability.
  • Plan’s resources (parts and materials, equipment, tools, and labour) for execution of maintenance plans, including timely scheduling of material orders.
  • Coordinates with Work Management Coordinators to transition draft schedules with time, resource, and material allocations.
  • Continuously identifies and drives opportunities to improve planning activities and implements best practice updates and changes.
  • Ensures data accuracy to enable effective decision-making and forecasting.
  • Generates reports and insights to support decision-making and strategy development.

The person

  • Experience in the mining industry with the emphasis on Fixed Plant and Mobile Plant Maintenance and Asset Management
  • A Mechanical or Electrical Trade Qualification with Post Trade Qualifications
  • An initiative-taker with the ability to adapt to a challenging environment.
  • Deep understanding of fixed plant and mobile plant maintenance.
  • Strong expertise in SAP for work order management, task list improvement, and scheduling.
  • Experience generating Gantt charts and schedules directly from SAP.
  • Significant Maintenance Planning experience in mining or asset intensive industry.

Challenges
Tanami Operations (NTO) site is located in a remote area of the Northern Territory, presenting logistical challenges for site access and supply chain management. The planner will need to navigate multiple working environments, varied rosters, and geographical locations, ensuring that all stakeholders are engaged, included in communications, and that the collaborative team environment is maintained despite these obstacles.
