Alongside Portfolio Managers and Client Specialists, the Strategists of the Global Insurance Strategy team focus on advising GSAM’s insurance clients in the design of their investment, risk, and capital management strategies; structuring bespoke and innovative investment solutions; and contributing to GSAM’s broad institutional client engagement effort via the provision of quantitative and industry-specific content. The Strategists use quantitative techniques, technology and industry knowledge to develop real-world solutions for our clients. They participate in client meetings and presentations designed to build relationships and pursue commercial opportunities with insurance clients and prospects alongside other members from the group, and the division-wide investment and marketing teams. Common investment projects include: strategic asset allocation, asset-liability matching, capital efficiency, investment thematic analyses, peer analysis, balance sheet transitioning, product design. This role will focus particularly in the development, structuring and marketing of private market solutions for Asian insurers, mindful of their risk appetite and regulatory, accounting and tax frameworks. Working alongside our Client Specialists and in close partnership with our Investment and Product R&D teams, the candidate will seek to position GSAM’s capabilities across private credit, private equity, infrastructure and real estate, identify the most efficient structures to deliver these risk exposures to our clients, advise internal Investment and Product R&D teams on the implementation of the products and pitch these solutions to clients. ROLE DESCRIPTION Lead the design and development of innovative investment structures aimed at delivering GSAM’s extensive private market capabilities to our insurance clients across Asia, mindful of local regulatory requirements, regulatory capital efficiency, accounting and tax considerations Maintain an up-to-date and in-depth knowledge of the private market investment trends across the Asian insurance sector Produce sector specific investment strategy research on topical trends Prepare and deliver presentations for client meetings and product pitches Collaborate with team members on client and internal projects Build a successful partnership with clients and investment teams SKILLS & EXPERIENCE WE’RE LOOKING FOR BSc, MSc or PhD-level education in a quantitative discipline from a top tier university. Actuarial qualification a plus Outstanding analytical skills, creativity, and problem-solving skills Strong communications skills Proven experience in insurance solutions, within an asset manager, a bank or an insurance company Proven experience in advising to or investing in private markets for insurance companies Strong leadership and managerial skills Ability to grasp problems described by clients, formulate them clearly, propose solutions and communicate the resulting analysis to clients with a wide range of analytical and technical expertise A self-starter, should have the ability to work independently as well as thrive in a team environment Ability to manage a portfolio of projects under strict time constraints Proficiency in English.
