Description
Learn Fast. Get Exposure. Build More Than Technical Skills. • Work under a mentoring-focussed CFO with direct exposure and support (ATE Registered if CA is part of your plan) • Broad finance exposure, diversity and variety is key • Highbrook location with easy motorway access and carparking • Office-based role; because learning happens faster when you’re close to the action This role is for someone who’s naturally curious, enjoys understanding the why behind the numbers, and wants to build a strong foundation in accounting while gaining exposure across how a business actually operates. We’re partnering with a successful Auckland business in the consumables sector looking for an Assistant Accountant who wants variety, ownership and the opportunity to grow. You’ll work closely with the Accountant (recently promoted) and wider Finance Team, getting involved across reporting, month-end, operational spend, rebates and business support, giving you exposure well beyond what many Assistant Accountant roles offer. Why this role stands out: • Learn directly from an experienced CFO who enjoys developing capability • Build exposure across both financial and management accounting activities • Gain hands-on experience across rebates, chargebacks and operational reporting • Join a collaborative, high-performing Finance Team • Develop skills and experience that create strong long-term career options • Generous salary and product discounts • Lifestyle leave – you can buy 2 extra weeks per year of leave! • Birthday leave What your day could look like: • Supporting month-end through journals, reconciliations and fixed asset management • Managing accruals, prepayments and operational expense tracking • Assisting with vendor rebate and chargeback processes and seeing issues through to resolution • Supporting reporting, variance analysis and finance administration activities • Preparing audit support and contributing to financial disclosures • Helping the team deliver accurate, timely and commercially useful information About You You’ll likely have around 2–3 years’ experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar role and be ready for more exposure and responsibility. You may have started in big 4/5, or within a fast-paced commercial business, but more important than where you’ve worked is how you approach your work. You are systematic, inquisitive, enjoy troubleshooting, organised and dependable. You’ll bring: • A degree in Accounting or Finance (CA/CPA eligible, underway, or open to completing in future) • Strong attention to detail and pride in getting things right • Curiosity, you ask questions and want to understand how things work • Great organisation and follow-through • SAP or similar ERP exposure and strong Excel capability • Clear communication and a willingness to get involved If you’re looking for an Assistant Accountant role that will give you exposure, challenge and genuine development, we’d love to hear from you.
Responsibilities
The role involves supporting month-end processes, managing accruals, and handling vendor rebates and chargebacks. Additionally, the candidate will assist with financial reporting, variance analysis, and audit preparation under the mentorship of the CFO.
