The role


We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join Jo Mercer on a full-time basis, working from our Cremorne Support Office. Reporting to the Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for the support of the day-to-day accounting operations. This includes assisting to maintain the company's cash flow by monitoring payments and expenditures, assisting with the month end close and maintenance of marketplace and tender type reconciliations.

 

You'll get hands-on exposure across a high-transaction retail environment spanning 27 stores plus a growing online and marketplace business - a genuinely varied role in a close-knit team where you'll build real reconciliation and process skills from day one.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform the daily bank reconciliation, investigate and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Prepare weekly overseas payments lists for Financial Accountant’s review.
  • Import transactions into the General Ledger from Retail Express.
  • Reconcile marketplace transactions, investigate and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Maintain marketplace and tender reconciliation workbooks and process notes using Power Query.
  • Prepare and assist with monthly Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reporting.
  • Assist with month end close, ensuring accuracy of the General Ledger.
  • Assistance ensuring all balance sheet accounts are reconciled accurately and efficiently each month, with any discrepancies investigated.
  • Assist in reconciling the company's BAS and process payment to the ATO.
  • Reconcile support office petty cash, samples, and foreign currency floats at the end of each month.
  • Raise manual invoices and credit notes as required.
  • Assist with new store set ups.
  • Assist with new marketplace set ups.
  • Monitor and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Document and maintain clear process notes for key responsibilities, flagging gaps or inconsistencies as they arise.
  • Identify areas to improve business efficiencies and reduce costs.

About you

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Commerce.
  • CA/CPA qualification commenced or completed.
  • Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles.
  • Strong knowledge of financial and accounting software applications; Power Query experience highly regarded.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
  • An analytical mind - ability to think through problems and apply judgement, not just follow a checklist, especially when a situation doesn't fit the standard process.
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision and adapting as processes evolve.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Strong general ledger reconciliation skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills - both verbal and written.
  • Strong Excel skills.
