POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine is recruiting for a full-time faculty members in the Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank in Malignant Hematology. Faculty in the Clinical X series are expected to engage in professional competence and activity, teaching, research and creative work, and University/public service. Faculty in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series are expected to engage in teaching, professional competence and activity, scholarly or creative activities, and University/public service.
Responsibilities include direct inpatient clinical care; lab/ translational research; teaching medical students, residents, and fellows; and university/ public service. Appointee will focus on clinical care and research related to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), cellular and gene therapy, hematologic malignancy, and/or immunology related to graft versus host or graft versus tumor effects. The final candidate is expected to become a leader in translational research in his/ her area of disease interest, as well as in the design, conduct, and analysis of early phase clinical trials aimed to improve the care of cancer patients in the context of a well-established clinical research program. Clinical patient care is required and will include supervision of medical students, residents and fellows in inpatient settings. The chosen physician will join a strong clinical and translational academic program within the NCI-designated UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center, which includes phase I-III clinical trials, investigator-initiated studies, as well as ongoing interactions with other cancer specialists.
The division includes nine faculty, 19 advanced practice providers, five research staff, and seven administrative and financial staff, and operates a large and diverse clinical and research program. The division is a strong component of the NCI-designated UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center and has a strong presence in developmental therapeutics with an Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network (ETCTN) grant and as a Lead Academic Participating Site (LAPS) with the NCI National Clinical Trials Network. The division research portfolio is particularly broad and spans laboratory-based early translation to population sciences and health disparities. The UC Davis School of Medicine is in the top quarter of US medical schools for NIH funding and one of the inaugural Clinical and Translational Award sites. QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  • Must possess M.D, M.D./Ph.D., D.O. or equivalent degree.
  • Experience in and the ability to teach trainees at multiple levels on benign and/or malignant hematology and/or oncology on inpatient service and in clinics.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills and interest in malignant oncology and/or hematology.
  • Ability and experience to conduct scholarly/clinical/translational research.
  • Completed at least one year of clinical experience managing both allogeneic and autologous transplant patients.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

  • Board certification/eligibility by the ABIM in medical oncology and/or hematology.
  • Medical Licensure or eligible for licensure in the state of California.

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

  • Evidence of administering clinical trials and writing investigator-initiated trials is highly desirable.
