JOB SUMMARY
Clemmer College of Education and Human Development at East Tennessee State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, 9-month Assistant/Associate Professor position beginning in January 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to work with students from across the region and nation in a growing, diverse Educational Administration and Leadership program. The School Leadership and Administrative Endorsement graduate program faculty currently provide training with concentrations in PK-12 building, district, and state-level administration.
The research area of specialization for this position is open, though we are particularly interested in candidates with training backgrounds in areas such as analysis of PK-12 achievement data, educating diverse learning populations, community and stakeholder relations, rural education, and developing operational best practices for school leaders. We seek applicants who will produce impactful research and emphasize training doctoral, master’s, and specialist students to become thoughtful and effective educational leaders, researchers, and practitioners.
The Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis Department offer a Master of Education degree, an Education Specialist degree, and a Doctor of Education degree. Program delivery includes online and hybrid formats. Qualified applicants will be prepared to contribute to the research, teaching, and service mission of Clemmer College of Education and Human Development at the graduate level.
The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at East Tennessee State University seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor for a 9-month tenure-track position beginning January 2026.
Position responsibilities include:
- Teaching graduate-level courses (online teaching is expected), primarily in the School Leadership and Administrative Endorsement program concentrations
- Working to meet and document program accreditation requirements
- Advising and mentoring graduate students
- Participating in program and course development
- Establishing positive relationships with local and regional schools and school systems
- Engaging in research and scholarly activities
- Directing student research, including dissertation work
- Participating in service to the department, college, university, community, and the profession of educational leadership.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- An ability and interest in teaching school leadership and administrative endorsement concentration courses including but not limited to areas such as district leadership, P-12 education, policy analysis, theories of administration, and online education.
- Ability to teach and mentor students across programs.
- Experience and/or familiarity with Pk-12 Leadership theory or research associated with school/district/state level leadership.
- An ability and interest in teaching school leadership and administrative endorsement concentration courses including but not limited to areas such as school, district, and state level leadership, Pk-12 education, policy analysis, theories of administration, and online education.
- Experience and/or familiarity with business principles governing school operations.
- Experience and/or familiarity with laws governing school/district/and state level operations.
- Experience setting clear performance expectations and providing meaningful feedback.
- Experience and/or familiarity with technology use, particularly in the online learning environment.
- Knowledge of CAEP, PSEL, relevant state standards, student learning objectives, and the ability to conduct appropriate assessments within the program’s course structure.
- Ability to facilitate and lead research design and implementation.
- Ability to engage in constructive problem-solving and to make sound decisions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with faculty and staff within the college, university, and diverse campus and community/education constituencies.
- Ability to promote diversity of thought and inclusion among students, within the faculty and staff, and in the curriculum.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Earned doctoral degree in Educational Administration or Educational Leadership, or a related field with completed dissertation (December 2025).
- Five (5) or more years of professional experience in PK-12 administration at the principal level and higher (e.g. central office, supervisor, superintendent, etc.)
- Evidence of teaching experience and skill, including the ability to articulate a pragmatic teaching philosophy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
- Qualitative research skills and a research agenda.
- A record of collaboration with school districts and community partners.
- Experience teaching adult learners.
- Experience serving on/chairing dissertation committees.
- Experience working with graduate students in instruction/online learning, mentoring, and training or research activities.
- Experience in rural education.
- Evidence that the successful candidate can address and respect the needs of all students.
- Active Pk-12 educational research agenda.
- Active principal and/or superintendent license.
