Assistant/Associate Professor of History– University of Jamestown Position Title: Assistant or Associate Professor Department: History and Political Science within Division of Social Science Location: Jamestown, ND Employment Type: Full-time, 9-month Faculty position Application Deadline: Open until filled The Department of History and Political Science at the University of Jamestown invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor position in History. We seek a dynamic educator and scholar able to teach a wide variety of history courses, committed to advancing research and student success in a collaborative academic environment. We are a small but healthy department within the broader division of Social Science, working closely with colleagues in Education. We strive to prepare our majors for a variety of careers, with a majority of our graduates going on to work in education. The department also continues a tradition of being thoroughly involved in the general education curriculum, with many of our survey classes helping the broader student population at the University of Jamestown excel as thinkers, communicators, and citizens. About the University of Jamestown: Established in 1883, the University of Jamestown is a private, Christian liberal arts university with its roots based in Jamestown, North Dakota. Committed to the “Jamestown Journey to Success,” we integrate liberal arts with professional preparation, fostering academic excellence and a supportive, family-like community. Key Responsibilities: Teach survey and advanced undergraduate courses across a variety of historical subjects related to Europe, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean World, from antiquity to the modern period. This is a 4/4 teaching position (24 credits per year). Advise and mentor undergraduate students, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Help students learn core skills in critical thinking, communication, cultural engagement, and historical perspectives through courses suited for general education and history majors alike. Prepare students for jobs in education, public service, law, or other history-related fields. Participate in departmental and university service, including committee work and community engagement. Contribute to the development of innovative curricula and interdisciplinary initiatives. Minimum Qualifications: Master’s or Ph.D. in History or a related field by the time of appointment. Ph.D. preferred. ABDs likely to complete the degree within a year will also be considered. Strong commitment to teaching, with the ability to engage diverse student populations. Ability to teach classes on modern Europe, the ancient Mediterranean world (especially Greece and Rome), and the Middle East. Ability to design new courses on these topics, and potentially on others related to their interests and expertise. Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills. Preferred Qualifications Although this is primarily a teaching position, we are still excited to hear from applicants with research, publications, or other academic pursuits in addition to their excellence in teaching.
