The Role The Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the Head Athletic Trainer in the daily management of player health and performance. This role assists in all aspects of the team’s sports medicine operations, including the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of player injuries, while contributing to the overall physical and mental well-being of the athletes. Working under the direction and supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will help prepare and maintain the training room and field setup for daily training sessions, scrimmages, and home games, as well as provide on-field emergency care when needed. The role requires delivering high-quality manual therapy and recovery interventions designed to maximize player availability, resilience, and performance across the season. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will collaborate closely with the medical, performance, and nutrition staff to deliver integrated and holistic care plans for players. The ideal candidate is adaptable, proactive, and eager to grow within a high-performance environment—able to think quickly on their feet, communicate effectively, and contribute positively to the team’s culture of care and excellence. Key Responsibilities Assist in managing the healthcare of players, including but not limited to first aid, emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, application of appropriate modalities, and the development and implementation of individualized rehabilitation and prevention programs. Support player recovery and readiness through manual therapy, soft-tissue techniques, and other evidence-informed treatment approaches. Monitor changes in players’ physical, mental, and psychological health through daily interactions, and communicate observations to the Head Athletic Trainer or relevant medical staff as appropriate. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of player health and participation in the League’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. Assist in ordering, maintaining, and inventorying all medical supplies, equipment, and treatment modalities. Ensure the athletic training room and other clinic areas are kept safe, clean, and organized at all times. Attend all required team training sessions, scrimmages, home games, and meetings as directed by the Head Athletic Trainer. Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with players, coaches, performance staff, and league personnel. Adhere to all League medical policies, protocols, and reporting procedures. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer or Director of High Performance What We’re Looking For Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field required. Masters degree preferred Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a certified Athletic Trainer working with competitive or professional athletes in a high-performance, fast-paced environment. Soccer experience preferred. Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer, in good standing at the time of hire. Licensed or registered as an Athletic Trainer in the state of Massachusetts (or the ability to attain) Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR for Healthcare Providers.
