POSITION OVERVIEW: Under general supervision of the STRIDES Barn Manager, provides support to the program and the barn manager. This involves teaching riding lessons, assisting with barn chores, running events such as birthday parties and petting zoo, and working with individuals with disabilities to enjoy the barn and services.
REPORTS TO: Barn Manager

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Be able to administer IV and IM shots and perform equine first aid.
  • Be able to identify illness and injuries and treat accordingly.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree required

Responsibilities
  • Teaches riding lessons for general public.
  • Responsible for taking the lead running birthday parties, petting zoo, and special events.
  • Teaches adaptive riding lessons for children and adults with disabilities.
  • Assists with keeping records updated of medications on hand.
  • Feeds evening hay and grain and closes down the barn for the night.
  • Keeps lesson tracker updated for riders with lesson packages.
  • Runs birthday parties, camps, special events, etc. as scheduled by the barn manager.
  • Keeps horse health logs updated.
  • Ensure quality care is given for each animal.
  • Oversee barn hands responsibilities and productivity.
  • Care for sick animals as needed on scheduled shift.
  • Help keep the barn clean and inviting for guests.
  • Assist with barn, fence, stall, and pasture maintenance as needed.
  • Assisting in misc. barn chores.
  • Assists in training volunteers and new staff as needed.
  • Assigns responsibilities to volunteers during scheduled shift.
  • Is responsible, as designated by the Barn Manager, for the care of the horses and program equipment.
  • Completes progress reports and other necessary forms and documents.
  • Identifies animal illnesses and injuries and responds accordingly.
  • Help cover shifts for call offs as necessary.
  • Maintain compliance with all Trinity policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Barn Manager.
