You will be closely involved in our highdensity (HD) lettuce breeding program and work approximately 80% of your time in the greenhouse, with the remainder spent on data processing, planning, and teamwork discussions. You will collaborate with experienced breeders and technical experts, receive responsibility early on, and contribute directly to selecting and developing the next generation of hydroponic lettuce varieties. While your main location is Enkhuizen, you will visit trial locations in Southern Netherlands approximately once per month. Make the difference as Assistant Breeder – Hydro Lettuce As an Assistant Breeder, you play a key role in the daily operations and selections within the Hydro Lettuce breeding program. You support greenhouse work, data collection, and trial evaluations, ensuring everything runs efficiently and accurately. Your main responsibilities To support phenotyping, harvesting, and selecting HD lettuce in the greenhouse. Checking transplanted programs (germination, watering, numbering). Preparing plant materials and entering plant lists in software. Reporting greenhouse issues and joining weekly team activities. Conduct flowering checks and caring for selected plants. Supporting trial evaluations in Enkhuizen and monthly visits to Southern Netherland. Working on data tasks: trial scoring, reporting, and updating flowering files. Assisting with additional tasks such as producibility observations, seed counting, and shelf-life research projects. You collaborate closely with your breeder and teammates in an open, international, and knowledge-driven environment. What you bring as a future colleague MBO-level education, preferably with a green background or proven experience in horticulture or plant breeding. Experience working in greenhouses or with plants (hydroponics experience is a strong plus). Strong organizational and planning skills; able to keep oversight in a dynamic breeding program. A team-oriented mindset, strong communication skills, and comfort working in a multicultural team. Good command of English, Dutch is a plus. Solid computer skills, including basic Excel/Ppt and willingness to learn Enza-specific databases. Flexibility regarding working hours during peak periods. Ability to work under greenhouse conditions (heat, walking gutters, repetitive tasks).
