OVERVIEW

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Buyer to join our dynamic purchasing team for a Regional Building contractorbased in the South West. The ideal candidate will support the procurement process by assisting in the selection and purchasing of goods, ensuring that our supply chain operates efficiently. This role requires strong negotiation skills and familiarity with the construction industry to maintain optimal contract and supplier relationships.

Responsibilities
  • The ideal candidate will be a positive team member and have a flexible approach to a variety of projects including new-build housing developments, refurbishments and construction projects
  • Working closely with the Senior Buyers, site operational teams and key supplier contacts to ensure best quality materials are sourced and ordered at the right price and delivered at the right time
  • Will be working in a fast-paced environment so must have the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Understanding and utilising construction related information including drawings, specifications, and commercial documents to be able to issue enquiries to suppliers
  • Strong analytical skills to review supplier quotations and negotiate best value for placement of orders in a timely fashion.
  • Confidence in negotiations and building of supplier relationships to deliver best value for our project teams
  • Help maintain accurate plant hire records for each project and regularly review supplier provided hired tool reports to ensure maximised value
  • Engaging with our design team to help influence best value at pre-construction stage
  • Providing information to our finance department to facilitate account management and efficiently deal with invoice queries
  • Circulate current material rates to the tendering team and keep up to date with potential price increases by carrying out regular market analysis
  • Previous experience in purchasing or procurement is preferred but not essential, however construction based experience with materials and their application is important. For example the role may suit candidates with construction site management experience or from supplier backgrounds
  • Good IT skills and experience using Microsoft Office applications is required
