Description

Feltham’s Farm is a multi-award winning organic cheese business between Wincanton & Templecombe. Established in 2017, our cheeses all have one or two stars from the Great Taste Awards, and several have more than that.
We love food. Marcus, owner and Head Cheesemaker, taught the cheesemaking course at River Cottage, and we are part of a growing network of organic food producers in Somerset and Dorset, including the Organic Cheesemakers Network.

We need an Assistant Cheesemaker. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Receiving and pasteurising milk, hands on with milk and cheese, including cutting, stirring, moulding up, salting, maturation in high care environment
  • Overseeing & executing as needed cleaning before and during production
  • Contributing ideas & effort towards increasing the efficiency & quality of the cheese room
  • Maturing/affinage of five cheeses
  • Wrapping and labelling
  • Attention to detail including recording of quality assurance checks, including for SALSA and EHO
  • Ability to move around and handle trays of cheese.
  • Working with sales and distribution team to grow the market for Feltham’s Farm cheese
  • some feeding of whey and animal husbandry

The individual in this role needs to have Catering Training as a minimum. You will gain a clear understanding of how we work, and what it takes to run a small-scale food business.
We pride ourselves on operating an open & inclusive environment that makes the most of (and values) the skills of each person who works here. We are a working Organic farm, with volunteers and other employees on site regularly.
There is ample opportunity to significantly expand this role– but we would say you really need to love and be curious about food, and cheese in particular.
